Round 2 of Morningside TC’s Summer League was held last night in perfect conditions for tennis. We had a bumper turn-out again with 40 players and unlike Bernard Tomic , all players were able to finish their matches with some fantastic tennis being played on all 10 courts.

League 1 saw Dave Whalley assert himself as the top player in the competition winning all three of his sets, including a win over newcomer and former WTA ranked player Anna Wishing. Rob Daley took out League 2 for the second week running and will move up next week to face the big guns. David Lloyd cut his way through League 3, winning all of his sets in a comfortable fashion. Jason Ogilvy won a tightly contested League 4, pipping Dave Channon by just one game, they’ll be joined next week by John Gleeson who continued on his winning way for the second week running, taking out a tight League 5. Jordan McConchie had a welcome return to form after a quite week 1 and will move back up the ladder after taking out League 6. League 7 was won by Superleague stalwart Kane Sheppard, who took out all three sets and will head into a higher division next week full of confidence. Newcomer Taal Hampson won a close League 8, pipping Kathleen Turner by just one game. They’ll be joined next week by Fritha Mackay who brought her ‘A’ game last night and took out League 9 in style. Deidre Nwariri won all three of her sets in League 10 and will be ready to move up and face some tough opposition next week.
Next week there will only be 36 spots available due to court availability so for players who haven’t paid in advance it’s recommended you confirm your spot sooner rather than later. Remember new players are more than welcome to join – just give the centre a call on 07 3899 8110 and put your name down.
Last nights results, the Summer League aggregate and Club Rankings are all listed below. Dave Whalley has maintained his position at the top of the ladder while the Summer League Aggregate sees Rob Daley take the top spot from Helen Boydell, John Gleeson & Fritha Mackay. Remember players need to have played in 2 or more nights to be eligible for the prizes.
