On Sunday April 6th, 24 adults and 9 juniors travelled to Gympie for an enjoyable – but hot – day of competitive tennis.
Out No 1 team fought hard against the usually strong players Gympie assembles each year with only Ken Barter and Andrew Jagtman winning two of their five sets of doubles and giving the win to Gympie by a large margin.
The No 2 team fared better winning 7 of the 20 sets against Gympie. Again Denis Fogarty and Paul Myerscough top scored for Morningside with two set wins each. The third team held its own again this year winning 90 games to 87 games. Doug Brennan was the top player in this team winning 4 pf his 5 sets and only losing the fifth set with Noel Toscano 6 games to 5 games.
Morningside players put up a credible performance in the extreme heat and all players including our juniors, who adapted to the ant bed surface incredibly well, thoroughly enjoyed the friendly hospitality of the Gympie side and are looking forward to a return match at our own Centre in 2015.
Another American tournament on Sunday is upcoming details will be posted soon.
