Newsletter Term 4

Welcome to Term 4!

Term 3 was very successful and we want to make this term bigger and better. The development of good habits will be a strong focus again this term and the following points are vital to achieving on and off court success.

  1. Preparation before a training session and or match
  2. On court work ethic
  3. Taking ownership of their game

With that in mind there are a few things that will help us to help them:

  • Encourage your children to pack and prepare their own equipment in advance of the session.
  • Be early for the session. Squads start promptly at 4:30pm. Please notify us if you are going to be absent.
  • All package players should be attending the physical/agility sessions. This session is designed to improve all of the players’ footwork and agility along with their speed and balance.A vital aspect in any athletes development
  • The agility sessions take place on Thursdays before squad from 4.00-4.30.
  • The expectation is that all players come prepared to give 100% regardless of which court they are on and who they are hitting with. Good attitudes along with the players taking ownership of their tennis helps create quality people on and off the court.

Squad Session Outline

The term will be broken up into 3 segments which leads the players into the Christmas holiday tournaments.

Preparation, Pre Competition and Competition phases. Each section carries drills and training concepts that gives the players a greater opportunity to fulfill their personal and tournament goals.

Focus points for the term will be:

Continued rotation of players to ensure variety and quality

* Serve and Return patterns

* Movement – Speed and Agility

* Competitiveness

* Individual game styles to best utilize their skills

* Creating a better understanding of trends in a match and how to utilize this information

Squad Make Up Days

The following dates will be used for any missed sessions. A reminder will be sent out in the week leading into these dates. The time for these will confirmed closer to the time and you will receive an email the week before with further information.

  1. Sunday  November 5(Week 5)
  2. Sunday December 3(Week 9)

Package Options

One important aspect in helping us develop our players is giving them the opportunity to play more tennis at an affordable cost.  For those that are interested in adding to their tennis program, we currently offer two packages to include doing extra squads, a private lesson, a fitness and agility session and for the younger players, the option to play hot shots league.  Please see the package options below and for any further information you can speak to your coach or the Pro Shop who can advise you further on which one would be best for your child.

Special Mention – Tournament Result
Two of our long standing squad members Brandon and Connor Minette had a very successful year playing the Junior Development Series (JDS) events around Brisbane and qualified for the year ending JDS Masters tournament played up in Rockhampton.  This a great achievement for some consistent results and dedication at these tournaments during the year…well done boys!!!

New Squad Coach – Julien Alibert

Some of you may have noticed a new coach at our Squad sessions this term.  Julien has joined us for 3 days a week from the Emerson Tennis Centre, to help with our Junior development program.  He is a very passionate and experienced coach and looking forward to helping our players improve their game. If you see him around the courts, please say hi!

Rockhampton | Bundaberg Tournament Trip

Over the September holidays the Tennis Gear Tennis Team ventured north to compete in the Qld State Age at Rockhampton followed by the Bundaberg Jnr Champs. We had 19 players on the trip which which was a great success. All players had a huge amount of match practise along the way and the team spirit amongst the group was great to see..  Big thanks to the parents Peter and Simone Waugh, Jill James and Anna Klatt for volunteering their time to help with the trip. It would be impossible to do it without you!

Another very big thank you goes out to the Shaw Park Club committee Peter Waugh and Jill James for their help raising money to support our players and providing a $100 discount to all participants on the trip.

I look forward to having a few players from the Morningside program join the trip next year…it is a fantastic experience!
