Celebrating a Century of Tennis Excellence: Morningside Tennis Club Marks 100 Years!
Brisbane, QLD – The Queensland Community Lawn Tennis Association (QCLTA) is proud to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025, marking a century of sporting excellence, community spirit, and dedication to the game of tennis in Brisbane.
Since its establishment in January 1925, QCLTA has been a cornerstone of Brisbane’s sporting landscape, fostering a love for tennis and strengthening the local community. As one of the city’s longest-standing sporting organisations, the club has endured through history’s most defining moments—including the Great Depression and World War II—while continuously evolving to meet the needs of its members.
Throughout its rich history, QCLTA has been home to more than 1,300 members at its peak, hosting legendary events such as its prestigious Annual Club Championships and vibrant social gatherings, including the beloved Club Dinner and Dance. With partnerships from esteemed brands like Toyota and the unwavering commitment of dedicated volunteers such as Brenda Dale, the club’s legacy continues to thrive today.
Centenary Celebrations – Join the Festivities!
To commemorate this extraordinary milestone, QCLTA is hosting a series of celebratory events, inviting past and present members, families, and the wider Brisbane community to be part of this historic occasion.
Annual QCLTA Club Championship
Dates: Sunday, 18th May & Sunday, 25th May 2025
Experience the thrill of competitive tennis as players vie for the title of Club Champion. The event will feature live music, family-friendly activities, and a community BBQ, ensuring a memorable day for all attendees.
Centenary Morning Tea
Date: Sunday, 18th May 2025
Time: 10:00 AM
Location: Brenda Dale Memorial Clubhouse, Morningside Tennis Centre
Reconnect with old friends, reminisce about cherished memories, and honour the club’s extraordinary legacy over morning tea at this special gathering.
By celebrating this landmark achievement, QCLTA hopes to reignite enthusiasm for tennis, encourage new memberships, and inspire the next generation of players.
“This centenary is a testament to the strength, passion, and camaraderie that have defined our club for 100 years. We look forward to bringing together our incredible community to honour our past and build an exciting future for tennis in Brisbane,” says the QCLTA Board of Directors.
A Call to History – Share Your Stories
As part of the centenary celebrations, QCLTA is seeking contributions from past and present members. Whether it’s old photographs, memorabilia, or treasured stories, every piece of history helps preserve the club’s legacy.
“We’ve uncovered fascinating records, including photos from the 1930s and sponsorships from the 1980s and 1990s, but we know there is so much more history to explore,” says the Board.
