Once again, Show Court number 7 at Morningside was almost at capacity for Tuesday nights Summer League.
Morningside Tennis Centre’s 2014 Summer League took place on Tuesday night in muggy, but otherwise perfect conditions for tennis. Once again the competition was maxed out so any players wishing to take part in next week’s action that haven’t pre-paid better register as soon as possible!
Next week will be the conclusion of this year’s Summer League and the competition is hot at the top of the table for the overall aggregate winner and club rankings. The top 3 players in this year’s aggregate will receive a Player’s Pack from Tennis Gear comprising of equipment, restring & coaching vouchers and more! So far due to some potentially underhanded organisation of the event Rob Daley is leading the way in both the aggregate & club rankings however due to ineligibility we have Tony Tran just holding off John Gleeson at the top of the table. Remember players must compete in at least 2 out of the 4 nights to be eligible for the prizes.
For those of you who missed out on the action don’t panic, we’ll be running the same format through the year in our Sunday League matches that run from 4.00pm each Sunday (commencing Sun, Feb 2). Call the centre on 07 3899 8110 to register your interest for this great comp!
Week 3 Summary
Week 3 saw Dave Whalley lose his stranglehold on the League 1 with his first defeats of the competition, Rob Daley ended up taking the honours in a tight group. League 2 was won by James Hanley who continued his run of good form and will head up to League 1 next week. League 3 was dominated by Sumanth, who must have been running late for a date as he made very short work of his competition without dropping a game. League 4 was won by Australia’s number 21 ranked player in the over 55’s, Owen Morgan, who will now move his crafty all-court game up to League 3 next week. Tony Tran kept his undefeated record intact, winning all 3 of his sets in League 5. League 6 was won by a game by Kane Sheppard in the closest league of the week, pipping Dave Whitaker who continued his unlucky run of second place finishes. League 7 was another close affair with Kris Gierach taking the honours on a countback over Taal Hampson. Taal will be joined next week by Tom Sullivan who proved that nice guys don’t always finish last with a big win in League 8 and Deidre Nwariri had another strong performance, winning League 9 without the loss of a set!
